How ironic. I just got back from a 12 x 12 study where the focus was on Tradition 2. For me, the fact that sanity COULD (my emphasis only) be restored helps me to stay on track integrating the steps in all of my affairs today. My sponsor told me quite some time ago that the first three steps are our foundation and I have totally come to understand how true that statement is over the time I have actively lived the steps. Another simple way in which I look at Step 2 is "God Can." Thanks for reminding me once more that as long as I continue to keep doing what I did to stay sober, I continue to place my trust in a Higher Power that truly wants what is best for me. I can't wait to see what other's interpretation on this step means to them because we stay sober, while I get dry or drunk.
Resign from the debating society, don't have to figure it all out on this step, just be OPEN and move forward. The group can be your higher power to start with- I came in and saw people had weeks, months and years sober.... more than I could accomplish trying on my own, so the group was already a power greater than myself. To me this was about how my way didn't work so I needed to be open to a way other than my own... The spiritual experience comes as a result of working all the steps, we gradually discover our higher power and faith throughout the process. Here, it's just about being open to that power greater or other than ourselves.
